Cambridge 105 presents a weekly music show that showcases the best in local talent.

The New Music Generator (NMG) airs every Wednesday evening from 7pm, the programme champions the local Cambridge music scene.

The two-hour flagship show includes live performances, a countdown of the Unsigned Chart, and a weekly gig guide.

In addition to the radio show, New Music Generator also stages live gigs at Cambridge venues The Portland Arms.

The NMG Sessions

Since 2011, my old show 105 Drive had been promoting and supporting local unsigned bands and artists in the Cambridge area through its ‘New Music Generator’ feature on a Monday afternoon. I’ve also been involved with supporting local events such as Strawberry Fair, Cambridge Rock Festival, Wish You Were Here?, The Junction’s Fiver Nights and Oxjam and in April 2012, the Unsigned Chart was born – giving listeners and fans a chance to choose their favourite local artists and for the artists themselves to have regular guaranteed radio airplay of their material.

The natural progression to all of this is to give the artists an opportunity to perform live on a stage, in a popular Cambridge music venue – and this is how the NMG Sessions idea was born.

Every two months I showcase 3 or 4 local unsigned or independently signed musicians from the Cambridge area, give them a stage and an audience for them to show the rest of the city what they’re made of – and of course, we’ll be there broadcasting it all too.

The Unsigned Chart

Designed to give music artists from Cambridge and the surrounding areas the airplay that they deserve. Each week 6 records all by independently signed or unsigned artists will go up for a vote but only 5 can make it through, which tracks go through is completely down to YOU and YOUR VOTE.

You can hear The Unsigned Chart every Wednesday from 8pm, highlights on 105 Breakfast weekdays from 7am and 105 Drive from 4pm and a podcast is available of every chart via the Cambridge 105 website.
